India's steel industry continues to exhibit robust growth. In the fiscal year 2023-24, crude steel production reached approximately 144.3 million tonnes, with finished steel production at 139.15 million tonnes. By 2030–31, crude steel production is projected to reach 255 million tonnes at 85% capacity utilisation achieving 230 million tonnes of finished steel production.
India's relatively low per capita steel consumption, coupled with rising demand from infrastructure development, the expanding automobile sector, and railway modernization, presents immense growth opportunities. Despite challenges such as high capital costs, logistics expenses, and raw material prices, India's steel sector remains globally competitive. The emergence of new technologies and evolving market dynamics—both domestically and internationally—are unlocking fresh avenues for the industry's growth and innovation.
