Dr A R K Rao

Dr. A. R. K. Rao is a veteran of the Indian paper industry, with over four decades of distinguished service marked by technical excellence, visionary leadership, and a strong commitment to sustainability. A dynamic professional, he has been instrumental in driving innovation, modernization, and energy efficiency across the pulp and paper sector.

As the head of Hindustan Newsprint Ltd. (HNL), Dr. Rao transformed the company into a benchmark for operational excellence and product quality. His leadership fostered a culture of continuous improvement and people-centric management. He served as President of IPPTA (1998–1999) and INMA (1997–1999), and chaired the Bureau of Indian Standards’ Paper & Products Sectional Committee from 1991 to 2001, contributing significantly to standardization and quality enhancement.

A respected figure in the sustainability domain, Dr. Rao played a pivotal role in promoting energy conservation through his association with CII’s National Awards for Excellence in Energy Management as a sectoral judge. As a GreenCo assessor, he continues to advocate for sustainable industrial practices. His lifelong dedication, technical acumen, and leadership have left an enduring impact on the Indian paper industry.
